Christian Life Retreat (Middle School - Day One)
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020
Change of pace. Change of place. Change of perspective. The most impactful week in the life of our student body began on Thursday, as our middle school student body kicked off our second annual Christian Life Retreat locally at Crosspointe Christian Centre. Students and faculty members began their time together with messages from Head of School Kent Harrison and Director of Christian Life John-Paul Burdashaw to offer a glimpse into the events of the retreat. Following the retreat's introduction, the morning continued with a series of team-building activities led by CHS parent, Board of Trustee member, and leadership expert Scott Humphrey. Students were divided into advisory groups and tasked with accomplishing a variety of different assignments to establish trust, build relationships, promote leadership, encourage listening amongst peers, and more. After a time of reflection with Humphrey on what the students took away from their time together, everyone enjoyed lunch, followed by a word regarding servant leadership from Director of Servant Leadership Reba Barnes. Intentional service opportunities were built into Thursday afternoon's schedule, as the students spent time assembling care packages for local frontline workers.
Following an afternoon of service, students enjoyed an outdoor block party, complete with the Waffle House food truck for dinner, inflatables, games, music, and fellowship. An incredible worship service concluded the evening, as Crosspointe's team led the student body in a beautiful time of worship followed by a powerful message by Jared Waldrop. Waldrop challenged the student body to hold three key points close to their heart: I am noticed, I am not alone, and I am fully known.
The day was certainly filled with impactful moments and opportunities for the middle school student body, and the retreat experience continued Friday with our second annual CLR Olympic Games, fellowship, and concluding worship service.
