General Information

THE SCHOOL

Christian Heritage School is the largest interdenominational day school in Dalton, Georgia offering classes from five year old kindergarten through twelfth grade. Christian Heritage, a parent led school, is an accredited member of Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the largest Christian accrediting agency in the world. Our graduates are eligible to qualify for the Hope Scholarship through the Private School Accrediting Committee.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Kindergarten
(5 and 6 years old) Our half-day Kindergarten program combines development learning with academic readiness for first grade utilizing Abeka and Saxon curriculums. We encourage hands-on experiences to reinforce learning, including regular field trips and creative expressions through art, music, and unit themes. We believe that play should be a part of the learning experience with a blend of free play, simple games, and directed play.

Lower School
(Grades 1 – 5) Since CHS seeks to assists parents in the education of their children, the curriculum choices for each grade reflect the following priorities: 1) a Biblical basis, 2) an emphasis on application to everyday life, 3) parental involvement, 4) a “concept” approach to the study of subjects which insures that some topics are studied and mastered before others are introduced, 5) a phonetic approach to reading. The following subjects are included within the curriculum: Bible, Heritage Studies, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Health.

Upper School
(Grades 6 – 12) At CHS, we recognize that the Upper School can be a unique period in the life of a student. With this in mind, we seek to help these students focus their direction both academically and spiritually by constantly involving them in challenging and interesting learning activities. The core curriculum includes Bible, History, Math, Science, Language Arts, Spanish, and Physical Education and Health. Electives include Art, Chorus, Speech, Drama, Desktop Publishing, Photo Journalism, Keyboarding, and Psychology. The Student Council, the CHS Honor Society, and the Roan Street School service project are a few of the leadership opportunities available to our students. Social events are also arranged to enhance group fellowship.

EXTRA – CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

CHS has an established sports program featuring the CHS Lions Basketball Teams (girls and boys) and CHS Lions Soccer Teams (girls and boys), Girls’ Cheerleading, and Girls’ Volleyball. Other various participatory and competitive team sports include Cross Country, Golf, Tennis, Track. Social events are arranged to enhance fellowship.

FACULTY & STAFF

At CHS you will find a faculty of certified and gifted Christian teachers and assistants who care about their students. These educators not only teach academics from a Christian perspective, but also model godly lifestyles on and off campus. The school office staff consists of a secretary, a registrar, a controller, Upper and Lower School Principals, and a Headmaster.

STUDENT BODY

Students attending CHS represent approximately sixty different churches and various denominations. The majority of CHS families are residents of Whitfield County, but many CHS families commute from surrounding counties

TRANSPORTATION

CHS does not provide bus transportation at this time. Parents are encouraged to coordinate car pools for both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

SUPPLEMENTARY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

CHS desires to provide assistance or guidance for meeting our students’ needs. We have developed a referral system for addressing special needs. However, when factors indicate that our classes or resources cannot meet the needs of a child applying from another school, the child will not be accepted. CHS offers a program for students with learning differences and after school tutoring for extra help in any academic area. There is a monthly fee, above tuition cost, for the use of these special programs.

TESTING

Even though our goal is to teach more than what standardized tests can measure (i.e., a world and life view, attitudes, etc.) and even though we recognize the limitations of standardized tests, we believe that proper analysis of such tests can serve to benefit the students. The Stanford Achievement Test is administered each spring. This test measures the academic achievement of our students against the national norms. An admissions test is administered to students applying for grades 6 – 12. Prospective kindergartners are given a developmental screening to determine readiness. We reserve the right to test children before they are accepted to determine grade placement.
